Updated: Mar 19, 2023

This hat was designed with the beginner Knitter In mind. It's a simple knit that can be done in a day or two, and is great for any worsted weight leftover yarn. a true Stash busting project. Perfect and stylish for the Holidays/ Birthday gifts, Or to wear next time you go on that mountain Hike.

Here is what you will need!

5.5 mm (9 us), and 6.0 mm (10 us), circular Knitting cables needles 1 tapestry needle 1 stitch marker

Yarn: Worsted + lace

115m or less 125 yards of 2 strands held together

The example used

-1 strand Drops Kid Silk Mohair (75%mohair 25%silk)

-1 strand Worsted weight Yarn ( I used Uru.Yarn By Knitcrate 40% huacaya Alpaca, 30% wool 30% suri Alpaca. But any Worsted Weight Yarn should Work)

Gauge & Measurement for Medium size, (Large) 4x4inch about 12 stitches by 20 rows

Unblocked measurement with folded rib: 8 inch width by 9 length

washed and blocked with folded rib: 9 1/2 inch width by 9 1/2 inch height

Table Guide: K: Knit P: purl

BOR: beginning of round ssk: slip slip Knit k2tog: Knit 2 together

Starting the Hat!

Ribbed hat Flip

Cast on 72 stitches using a long tail cast on with 5.5mm circular needles with both yarns held together. Connect in the round carefully not to twist. (Personally I like to swap the first and last stitch in my needles when connecting to avoid having a large gap. around the stitch marker that we will add in the Next step)

Row 1: Insert a stitch marker At BOR *p2,k2* repeat *_* till end of round

Row 2: p2, k2,

Continue working in pattern, till hat border measures 2.5 inch or desired Length, depending on personal preference and forehead length.

Purl 1 row (This will be the border fold)

Hat:

Switching to Bigger needles (6mm)

Don't worry If it looks funny, but keep in mind The hat will be worked inside out. so are the decreases

Row1: *p2,k2* till 2 stitch remain Knit 2tog Row 2: P2, K2 on 6mm needles*

Repeat row 2 till hat with border folded measures 6 1/2 inch or till desired Length.

The hat should be tried on at this point while still on the needles to make sure the length is to your liking. Length can even be matched to your favorite hat to be certain you will love it!.

Decreases: Row 1: *p2,k2 for 19 stitches, ssk, p1, k2tog,*(That's one of the 3 repeated decreases. work *_* 2 more times till BOR. ) Remember when you continue the P2, K2 Keep the same knits, and purls order with the previous row. this will. Create the 3 raglan decreases.

Row2: *p2, k2 till 1 stitches before previous decrease, ssk, p, k2tog* Repeat till BOR. (The Purl stitch in the center of the Ragland decrease should Line up)

Repeat rows 1 & 2 till 10 stitches left.

Row1: Knit all stitches

Row2: k2tog till 5 stitches left

Break The yarn End Weaving:

Break the yarn with a long enough tale for end weaving. With tapestry needles pass through the remaining 5 stitches, Pull tightly passing the yarn though the center of the hat, and Flip Hat inside out the purled row that we knit at the border should now be facing you on the outside, weaving in the end on this side.

Flip hat inside out. The row that was purled should now cause a natural bend where hat rib fold should be.

Remember to wash and block before wearing
